It’s Sights & Sounds day in Ripon, with many of the local community groups out in force highlighting the good work done with some amazing stories of volunteers and volunteering. And the three museums, Prison, Courts & Workhouse, were open for visitors (free for locals). Workhouse stories are often harrowing accounts of tragedy, and whilst exploring the site we came across the hospital, gardens, bathrooms, dining rooms and school room. Children were legally entitled to 3 hours of reading, writing and Christian education each day.

The classroom is very similar to the classroom I thought in for quite a few years … and it wasn’t that long ago ….
