Speckled Wood

A short walk around the mills in Glossop town centre revealed a few surprises. The disused Volcrepe mill had up to 10 Swifts over and one swallow flew by as well as the feral pigeons and Jackdaws. The first 'screaming' swifts of the summer.

The footpath to the South of the brook was where this lovely Speckled Wood butterfly was resting. There were Chiffchaff and Blackcap calling with noisy House Sparrows obviously dealing with unruly youngsters nearby.

At the back of Howard Town mill behind the newly opened pub The Smithy Fold there were Dipper, 3 Grey Wagtails, Mallards, Willow warbler, Robin and Chaffinch.

Great that the wildlife manages to find some quiet corners in such a busy town.
