Orchids galore
I spent a busy morning tidying up my study. I can never understand how quickly it degenerates but anyway, order has now been restored.
After lunch, on the spur of the moment, I suggested a quick trip to Wisley. Wisley has the benefit of having paved pathways, which is a blessing after the recent rain, lots of cafes, lots of toilets and, of course, an ever changing horticultural selection to admire. What I hadn't realised was that there was also an Orchid Show taking place.
The Orchid Show was breath-taking. There was every kind and colour (see extra). It was amazing. Plants were selling like hotcakes, presumably fueled by mother's day purchases. I was sorely tempted but also bewildered by the types and colours. It was also the last couple of hours of the three-day show and there were lots of plants that had been reserved.
After the orchids the rest of the garden seemed a bit tame, drab even, which isn't really fair as there were sheets of crocuses, daffodils and some rather beautiful irises.
As we left it was a bit disturbing to see the massive roadworks that are taking place around the intersection of the A3 and the M25 and that are nibbling away at the edges of Wisley. The signs say that the work is due to be completed in the summer of 2025. It must be frustrating if it's the route of a regular commute - the traffic was bad enough on a Sunday. The cost and the upheaval is massive. I can think of better ways for the money to be spent.
