Garbage strike
Both non-confidence motions against Macron failed today and the bill to raise the retirement age to 64 is now law. The news reports protests around the city tonight. I also read that some éboueurs (garbage collectors) are back to work today but I haven't seen any evidence of that in our neighbourhood. The back log is considerable and some garbage incineration plants are on strike. This is the street we take to go to our bakery... there is a fairly big apartment building on it and for a while they kept all their garbage on the sidewalk and pedestrians could barely get around it. Then they decided to start taking over parking spots to make a path along the sidewalk like the parting of the red sea. We are keeping all of our recycling in the apartment and it is starting to take over our kitchen.
I ran in Parc André Citroen this morning and J did a long walk to a new Decathlon in the 8th arrondissement, and back again. I worked at home, reading Cladel's articles in La Fronde, digitized through Gallica, an amazing resource.
