Newport Wetlands

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
Arthur C. Clarke
Reasonably early start (for me) at 7.30am to go to Newport to take K1’s car for its MoT at Spytty. The deal is I pick her up at 8.30ish and we go for a cooked breakfast, then a walk around Newport Wetlands. Probably a couple of years since I’ve been here and the place has changed, the reeds have spread around the centre itself. Almost as soon as we started our walk a passing shower brought light rain, but not enough to deter us from our walk. Surprisingly quiet with the exception of some noisy Canada Geese honking through the reedbeds, but didn’t catch any sightings of the Otter or Kingfisher we were told were around. Nice stroll in the fresh air and the view over the estuary to Somerset is quite dramatic at times with the light breaking through the shower clouds. Tide is low so plenty of birds feeding on the exposed mud flats – Shelduck and Oystercatcher amongst others. Time for a coffee and cake at the visitor centre before the call to collect the car about 1pm and head home. Maybe the effects of all that fresh air but I headed off for a doze before settling to watch a bit of TV, unusually for me in the afternoon. The TV programme posed the question "how would your grandparents view the technology you use today" (computers, smart phones, digital cameras). Magic indeed.
