Not standard gauge!

Today's ride was to Reefton a 400 kms round trip which had a chilly start and warm finish the temperature dropped to 9 degrees on the way there but had warmed to 20.5 on getting home.

New Zealand runs a 3 foot gauge railway and not standard gauge which is 4 foot 81/2 inches so a considerable difference I'm told its cheaper and the curves can be tighter but I have not been able to confirm this.
The Blip shows the rails crossing the road with no barriers just flashing lights with my bike just in view. There are no high speed trains in NZ so all quite sedate.
