Brassica napus
In my teens I would not have been able to stand anywhere near here. I'd immediately get runny, bloodshot eyes, a runny nose, violent sneezing and a general overall feeling of misery. Today, Hayfever affects me in a different way; a general suppression of energy, headaches, pressure on the sinuses and a slight but noticeable temporary deterioration of the eyesight. I'm sure you'll need no introduction to the image above; Rapeseed or Brassica napus to give its latin name. Its scent will waft into many a rural nose this Summer, but it is the tree pollen and grass pollen seasons that are the more persistent irritants. This typical British farmland scene is also spectacular - I'm sure this won't be the last rapeseed bloom picture i'll be taking... and then there's the blue fields of Flax; but that's another story for another day.
