Sewer Success

A Thames Water lorry arrived before eight. I watched as it turned round in the drive and guessed from the cautious style of driving that it was being driven by a woman. (We women drivers need to be cautious when manoeuvring in confined spaces as our spatial awareness differs from that of men.) She and the bloke with her did their best to clear the blocked sewer from a manhole on our property but unfortunately couldn't manage it. I didn't meet the woman but good on her for taking on a job traditionally done by men.

Another Thames Water lorry with two blokes on board turned up at 8:00pm. They accessed the sewer from a manhole in the road and finally cleared the blockage. They told me that the sewer blocks because a piece of broken manhole cover is wedged in it. It's likely to block again and if it does they'll have to do major work to sort it.
