Foreign Spirits?

I noticed this sign painted on what was obviously and old canal-side pub, and it intrigued me.

What are foreign spirits or has it something to do with the new pub down the road - The Waterwitch?

The old castle is Odiham Castle just along the canal from Greywell and the Greywell tunnel although it obviously pre-dates the canal by a year or two. A nice challenge for some budding 'Grand Designer.'

And finally. A very pleasant village pub - number 23 - where, as I missed out last night, I indulged in their fish & chips. And a swift half.
