Boer war memorial
Tessa was up unwell this morning so had to get the bus to town and pick up the bus in town to Manadon Hub. All would have been well but the bus did not turn up so popped in the office to find out what had happened and they had a driver shortage so the 60 was cancelled! Had to get a taxi so was very miffed! Got a lift back to Emanuel church then got the bus to Mutley plain and walked from there down to the Box.
Popped in to see the Sue Williamson exhibition of an anti apartheid feminist, born in Britain but who show cased and celebrated the under rated female leaders in the apartheid movement and the liberation struggles!
This sculptural commission is one she created which combined the look of the war memorial on the Hoe to the soldiers who died in the Boer War with the memories of those who died in the concentration camps they created for the women and children who were thrown off their farms in the scorched earth policy of the British! It is ephemeral as it is embroidered panels with pictures of the progress of the war!
