Wolfy

Our nickname for Gus is Wolfy, and he can look remarkably wolflike. Someone said, and I am not sure if there is any truth in this, that collies are genetically closer to wolves than almost any other dog breed. If he is a pied wolf, then he is an extraordinarily gentle one.

This was in the rabbit field where the game is to sprint as hard as he can along the length of the field, scatter any rabbits, then hare back to me for the reward of a Gravy Bone. Gus doesn't have the speed or the cunning to catch a rabbit, and I don't think he would know what to do with one if he did. Bob the Cat, for the first time in 11 years brought home a rabbit last week, and deposited his offering beneath Gus's nose. Gus didn't touch it, and it was lying there forlornly when Wifie came down stairs for breakfast.
