Snoozing
I'd never seen a heron sleeping before: instead of tucking his head back and under his wing, he tucks in his neck and nestles his beak right into his chest so that his head completely disappears. It looks a bit disconcerting...! But then he had a stretch when the sun came out and I just got this photo before he settled back into headless pose again. Apparently he doesn't normally sit in this tree but I think unfortunately he may be perched here waiting for the cygnets below to hatch...
I love how many people stop to chat about the wildlife here in the park. And I also met someone else who is watching the Cornell Heron Cam. Their chicks are hatching right now...
