Hexam Abbey
A dreich day here in Northumberland so quite a few of the people on the Wildax meet-up took the bus into Hexham for a couple of hours.
It wasn't really a day for outdoor photography, although, good to see the town busy and the market set-up around the abbey was doing some trade. We went into the abbey cafe and then had a look around the inside - not quite what we were expecting as it is more 'square' than most churches, the Choir space is almost the same length as the Nave and the two Transept arms almost the same too. My blip is a view across from one transept to the other. The crypt is interesting in that it was built using some decorated stone left from some of the local Roman buildings.
Can't see there being much astronomy tonight but Sunday night is looking a lot more promising :-)
There is a large motorcycle event based in the next campsite, 180 riders in the Keilder 500 which is a two day 500km motorcycle off road orienteering thing. As some of you will know, anyone who can afford to run a large modern adventure bike is very unlikely to be a troublesome individual, so it's all very civilised and quiet :-)
They all went out to the start this morning as we were waiting for the bus, much nodding and waving. I think they are all Chartered Accountants!
Thanks to everyone for my birthday wishes and recent visits to my journal.
