Ashamed...

...that after four years of working off the Cannongate I only bothered to go and find out who this is today!

It is Robert Fergusson, a Scottish poet. He is buried in the Cannongate Kirk Graveyard and this statue stands outside the Kirk. Robert Fergusson died at the ridiculously young age of 24 with only a slim volume of poems in his name. However, they had a big influence on another of Scotland's great bards, Robert Burns. Fergusson was buried in an unmarked grave and Robert Burns commissioned a gravestone for him. That might be tomorrow's lunch time stroll.

Feel a bit of a theme coming on...learned lots of things about the Cannongate on my search for this information and saw lots of things I am totally oblivious to on my daily walk to and from the office...it's time I opened my eyes!

When I left the office this evening somebody had popped a couple of lilac helium filled balloons in his hand:-)
