Monday Cleugh, and the homestead

We had intended to walk up to St Cuthbert's way on the more interesting route through Monday Cleugh*, and past the iron-age hill fort at the top. But we started out rather later than hoped, and instead just walked around the side of Humbleton Hill. To the right of the Blip you can see quite clearly what's marked on the map as a 'homestead', probably an iron-age settlement. It's not quite so obvious when you're walking on the track next to it!

A very pleasant walk anyway. I love the section where the track from Humbleton meets St Cuthbert's Way - wide, open moorland with good views across to the Cheviot and Hedgehope Hill, round to the Newton Tors and Yeavering Bell. A good place to watch the sunset, but not today - by the time we reached the top of the track the weather was clagging in.

*Cleugh is the Northumbrian form of clough, meaning ravine or gorge.
