Broad bean (final. hopefully!)
I've never done well with broad beans. Fact. I've tried to grow them for 5 consecutive years and never had much success.
This is the last sowing for this year - 6 plants (3 green, 3 crimson), which I started in the greenhouse and put outside last weekend.
I planted them under the bean tunnel, amongst (now wormy) kitchen waste which I'd usually dig in a trench in early spring but I can't dig so the coffee sack "mulch" will have to do.
I recently read a French permaculture book in which the organic gardener advised just adding kitchen waste directly on the soil as ground cover, I guess I could say this is my take on it.
