Visiting the slate museum
A good day starting with breakfast at Waitrose, so so, back to the vegan cafe for a coffee, the machine had broken down in W, and onto the Welsh Slate Museum. Apart from the fiasco of paying in the carpark, (we didn’t, a couple leaving helped out), we spent a wonderful few hours wandering the grounds and building. John loved it all. Along the many exhibits an experienced slater demonstrated splitting a slate and a film explaining how it all began and continued.
The water wheel above was just over 50ft in diameter, apparently the largest on mainland UK. The water was piped from the hills on the opposite side of the valley. John has taken most of the wheel photos, I had a strange vertigo moment.
