Otters on Sanday

I went over to try and see an American bird, a long-billed dowitcher, which has been there for a few weeks. Work, bad weather, cancelled ferries etc all stopped me from getting over before today. I cycled up to the pool at Cleat which it has been frequenting and did get the bird. I watched for a while but it stayed pretty distant. So it just makes the extra slot. Cycling back to the ferry I was just nearing the waiting room when I thought I'd check the harbour for otters and there were two! I had twenty minutes or so to watch them. I think a mother and large cub. The mother  had no difficulty catching food which it ate or shared. As the ferry pulled in they disappeared into a hiding place in the rocks of the breakwater.
