Centrepiece
The beautiful Witpoortjie Falls, centrepiece of the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens near Roodepoort.
I led an outing of our bird club there this morning, the weather was ideal, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable outing, recording a total of 50 species, with some nice highlights being the Verreaux's Eagle pair (Aquila verreauxii), currently incubating their eggs which should hatch in the next couple of weeks, and the very beautiful Fairy Flycatcher (Stenostira scita), a seasonal migrant from S to N from higher elevations to lower at this time of the year. Were fortunate to find 3 individuals.
The eagle nest currently in use is just to the left of the second fall of water at around 10 o' clock.
