Huddersfield A-Z: Emley Moor Mast
This should really be entitled "Emergency Blip" - I had planned to Blip the mast on my weekly trip to Wakefield, but I had a vomiting, peeing dog in the car (in both directions) so I was not inclined to hang about to get the shot I wanted. I do not like this shot, it is distorted and badly composed but at least the sky is good!
The mast is 1084 feet high, the tallest freestanding structure in the UK, with the top standing almost 2000 feet above sea level. It is the third transmitting tower to have stood on the site, the second having collapsed in 1969 under the weight of ice and snow.
I climbed the mast with my son when he was 4 and obsessed with towers - it was a very scary lift journey to the top but a fabulous experience. Here we are at the top - at least my son has the excuse that I chose his clothes for him. Goodness knows what my excuse is.
So anyway - corny song link alert - it's a long way to the top.
Some negativity floating around Blip yesterday - I truly hope it has gone as we are all worse off for it.
