Reed cages
A different sort of volunteering this morning, helping CaST (Catchment Systems Thinking, led by the South Cumbria Rivers Trust) put wire cages into Lake Windermere. Reeds will be planted inside the cages later in the year, hopefully protecting them from being eaten by Canada geese or disturbance from boats. Reed beds are such important habitats for wildlife around the lakes, it will be interesting to see how they develop.
