Tomorrow morning I'm going on holiday with friends.
I've never holidayed with friends before and I can't tell you how excited I am.
I believe that we are a very well-matched trio and we've planned an itinerary that we're all incredibly excited about.
I've booked tickets online for all the places we want to visit and have printed out paper tickets for everything.
My chums both have smartphones and have saved all the tickets on theirs just in case my paper ones dissolve in the torrential rain we are forecast.
And then this evening I received this email:-
Smartphone users: if you store bank cards on your phone, please save your ticket to your Google/Apple Wallet or print it out before setting off. This will avoid interference with your digital bank card and prevent undue charges when you scan an on-screen image of your ticket’s barcode.
If you’re charged in error, please visit the OVpay website to find out how to get a refund.
Which is precisely why neither my phone nor my travel-swipe-plastic connect directly to my bank account, why my bank cards live in a swipe-proof wallet and why I prefer to use paper tickets and cash. It may not be "convenient" but I like to think I'm alert enough in the moment.
