Library - Chapter 2

There was a generally positive response to yesterday's blip of the 'new' Central Library in Liverpool but some concern that the shiny, space-age, architecture didn't seem to allow much room for 'old-school' books!

Rest assured that books are not yet consigned to the scrapheap of history! The library renovation has not just been about the 'new'. The 'old' has also been beautifully restored...

Here's a view of part of the magnificent Picton Reading Room which was originally opened in 1879 and was based on the rotunda of the British Museum in London.

The circular room is 100' in diameter and 56' high with seating for 200 readers and was designed by Cornelius Sherlock, Corporation Surveyor.

Imagine being surrounded by three storeys of books - two of which you can see here - it's a Booknerd's dream!!
