William IV
This machine is the William IV, a replica of Australia's first steam powered ocean going paddle ship. The original operated, after it was launched in 1831, between Sydney and Morpeth. Morpeth is up the Hunter River close to Maitland and was once a thriving river port. Wiki says she was rebuilt and lengthened in 1853 and in 1863 sailed to China with records ending in 1868 when she sailed to Japan.
This replica was launched in 1987 by Mrs Hazel Hawke, bless her. It was a bicentennial project and was constructed locally. I have been on her once on a harbour cruise many years ago (probably in the bicentenary now that I think of it) and then realised that work functions which are harbour cruises are best to be avoided as there is no escape. She is now available for charter.
Thanks for hosting Bob.
