Witley Court

We paid our first visit to the English Heritage property just outside Worcester, Witley Court.  A very grand building in the estate, grounds, lakes and building except the place is a ruin, following a fire in 1937 the place was gutted.  It is incredibly interesting walking through the grand rooms, now mostly roofless.   We had one or two rain showers whilst there, the wet floors added to the picture of decrepitation.

The lakes and gardens are maintained by English Heritage including the centerpiece fountain of Perseus and Andromeda which only sprays on the hour, and apparently only from the first of  April, though I guess its clock is out of kilter as it was working today.  Naturally we stood in the rain and watched the 12 noon display.

I took lots of photos, including of the working fountain.  The one in the extras has turned out very strange, but I quite like it in a quirky kind of way.  The main pictures are of the front and rear of the building.  I'll enter this for Derelict Sunday.

We decided we would want to come back and explore the gardens and walks, and revisit the house, so we rashly signed up for membership.  Attached to the court is Great Witley Parish Church, not in ruins and apparently worth a visit, they also have very nice tea rooms, which we did visit.
