White clover (trifolium repens)

White clover is in the bean family of plants (leguminaceae) and native to Europe and central Asia. While a weed in some contexts (like a lawn), it is widely cultivated and has been introduced world wide as a forage crop for grazing livestock. Being a legume, its roots have nitrogen fixing nodules which obviates synthetic nitrogen fertilisers.

The white clover leaves and flowers are high in protein and can aid survival of humans in dicky situations. It's best to boil them for a few minutes if possible prior to eating to assist digestion (we are not cattle).

I plucked this white clover flower from a grass verge on the way back from the shops. The tiny vase it's in is inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and bears a tulip motif.

Thanks for hosting BikerBear. Happy weekend one and all.
