Inspired by a bright red fungus.

It was Meg who spotted it. It’s a sarcoscypha austria, commonly known as the scarlet elf cap because, according to folk law, elves drank morning dew from it.
Apparently, it is widespread, but scarce and can be found on fallen twigs and branches in shady, damp places. That fits exactly the environment of Rayrigg woods where Meg spotted it. I’m so pleased she walked with me today.
