The good news is

...that, having seen a singleton little egret a number of times, it turns out there are two!  They were both by a branch of the river today.  So perhaps for the first time on the reserve we may have chicks?  The long crest feathers this one has are summer wear only, so s/he at least looks ready to go!  How exciting!

Today once again we have had a lot of rain and after today's park run (I'm inferring here, I didn't actually see it) the park looks like a mud-wrestler's paradise!  However, it didn't rain non-stop and looking at the weather going forward it seems the sun may be coming back at last.  Fantastic!
