Poor magnolia

A heavy cold front thunderstorm came through at 1am this morning. Some of the strikes were none too distant and I heard something blow up (a tree hopefully) in the dark. The rain pounded down, cold squalls blew and it was thoroughly unpleasant.

This magnolia, planted before we arrived, has never been what you might call happy at over 1500ft above sea level. But it soldiers on and over the years I have attempted to prune it into a more robust shape.
