RSPB Ham Wall (Wednesday 29th March 2023)
My brother (The Spotlight Kid) and I had twice postponed our planned birdwatching outing to Ham Wall on the Somerset Levels because of the weather, settling on this day because of the long range forecast.
We had a good long lunch at the Sheppey Inn at Lower Godney waiting for the rain to stop and finally began the walk at 1615 hr. The light was already going and the rain soon set back in.
The sole surviving picture from the day was taken from the Avalon Hide. One can normally see the tower on Glastonbury Tor from there, but it had been decapitated by mist. It is of a male shoveller, but poor light, rain and long zoom all combined to defeat my super-zoom bridge camera. We did hear the booming of a bittern and got to see a marsh harrier. For once we didn't see a great white egret, or the glossy ibis known to be there at the time. It had disappointed several of the other birdwatchers there that we commiserated with. One had come down from Cheshire, another from Birmingham.
From the car while driving along past the Westhay reserve I had seen a great white egret, another marsh harrier and a cormorant, all in flight.

Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up (1970)
As discussed over lunch at the Sheppey. From the album Curtis, a single edit was released in 1971. It was covered by the Jam and sampled by Kanye West.
