Compact castle with excellent defensive layout.  Steep approaches on 3 sides and moat on fourth.  Battlements on 3 sides above approach way (arrows, spears, stones, boiling pitch while trapped in the approach).  Small entrance door to steep internal ramp with high sides and further battlements on 2 sides.  Continuous walkway round all battlements, then long narrow stairway up from battlements to high level entry into keep. Really matched my childhood model of a defensive castle.
