3017. Carl Zeiss Ikon Contessa
This is my other film camera, it’s a Carl Zeiss Ikon which is a bit of an enigma as the serial number suggests that it was made in the late 1950’s to early 1960’s if you go by the serial number which is very clear on the case. However, this doesn’t really tie up with the serial number for the fixed Carl Zeiss lens. After a bit of detective work it is apparent that this one with the Prontor SLK Spezial lens is a bit of a composite camera probably using pre-war parts which were available for a few years after the end of the war. The confusion was created because the case is stamped in several places as “Made in Germany” which for the date would be incorrect as it should be stamped “Made in West Germany”. However, according to several sources online it appears that there were a few cameras produced using pre-war parts well into the 1950’s. I have a 35mm film in it and I’m going to try and locate a manual online so that I can get the settings right as it has so many dials and other settings that I don’t really know much about!
