Jesus is angry

The last few nights have been surprisingly cool enough to sleep with windows open and just a sheet. This is such a pleasant change from the typical Dar es Salaam night with the aircon unit fired up. I definitely think the more natural nighttime environment creates less of a ‘hit by bus’ feeling in the morning, having had gentle natural breezes wafting through the room all night. And it means I am waking up earlier and feeling fresher. How delightfully wholesome.

I am at another internal workshop to try and finalise a funding proposal. During a (frequent) power cut that zapped off the projector, my colleague Zaina joked that ‘Jesus is angry’. We then got chatting about religion and Ramadan, which Muslim colleagues are observing. Not drinking water during daylight hours (approximately between 5am and 7pm) is no mean feat in humid Dar es Salaam and the whole coast of Tanzania.

‘Do you believe?’, asked Zaina. This time I answered no. ‘So you believe in good action?’ Actually yes. Very good way of phrasing it.

Meanwhile we get emails with titles like ‘Grants Management System Newsletter’ and we wonder who is compelled to delve into such a publication.
