Porcine Still Life
OilMan and I stumbled on Diavola (tr. "she-devil") in the tiny town of Geyserville at the head of the Alexander Valley a couple of years ago and it has definitely joined our growing list of favorite places to eat in Sonoma County. It manages to successfully combine an out-of-the way location, house cured meats, country Italian specialties and a funky/trendy decor in a way that appeals to a lot of people. Coming out of the ladies' room today, I noticed the porcine silhouettes next to the crossed cleavers perched on a ledge behind an opaque piece of glass and couldn't resist....
On the way home, we stopped at the Medlock Ames tasting room to pick up a case of wine and admire another building which has blended the old and the new in ways that don't compromise either.
See Lady Findhorn's journal for a description of what we all had to eat, and you will understand why we are now more or less comatose--resting and meditating on the fact that we won't have room for another bite or drop for at least three days! (Reminds me of a little story I read in the travel section of the paper the other day about a woman who had finally realized a lifelong dream of traveling to the cheese making regions of Europe. When asked what she wished she had taken with her, she said, "two stomachs.")
