We walked to the station together where we parted company with the third member of our group as she set off to the airport and home. Lots of time to kill before anything was open so we wandered about exploring the silent streets. Found a lovely cafe for breakfast and then explored what had been the Jewish quarter. Stumbled across a statue of Benedictus de Spinoza who was obviously thinking Darwinian thoughts long before Charles, and then the National Holocaust Names Monument and the Auschwitz Monument before reaching our planned destination; the Museum of WWII Resistance. We managed to spend a whopping three and a half hours in there and emerged to glorious sunshine. Found a wonderful bar for lunch and then wandered gently northward taking in the sloping roof garden that is Renzo Piano's Science Museum. A place where children can play with water and see how falling water generates energy and how adding their own energy to water raises it up again. From there the free pedestrian ferry across the water to the astonishing This Is Holland. A “5D” flight experience which, if a little costly, is masses of fun. Tired from a long day we strolled back to our hotel to watch the world go by.
