The Scale of Things

The colour is SOOC all I've done it crop it a little.

On my way home from Nelson on Tuesday I noticed these fungi in a farm paddock. I didn't stop and capture any images of them because it was late, wet, cold etc.

Today I took a carload of kids up to Nelson for a careers expo. They pleaded to go in my little car so they were lucky that in the end I only had to take 3 of them and we were able to change over from my 'big' car to the 'little' one (size being a relative thing). Anyway it meant that they could travel with the roof down - I'm sure youth are impervious to cold; 12 deg Celsius and they talked me into it. I have to say that's the coolest I've ever had the top down!

Anyway, I took the time to stop today and photograph these growths. The close-ups of them are interesting but this one shows the scale of them better - the largest is bigger than a meat platter, the smallest is still at least saucer sized. I've never seen them so large before.

Waiting until this morning to photograph them seems to have worked too because I managed to get them just as the light was hitting them. Not that there was any sunshine today but the light managed to glow through the grey a few times.
