Collapsing Dune

After walking in the woods this morning we walked to the west end and discovered one of the paths had subsided. The path came close to the top edge of the dune, so I suppose it was going to happen at some point.
Our walk was a joyful one though. We entered the woods and stopped to listen to the bird song which was much more noticeable than usual. While I was standing there soaking up the bird song a grey squirrel rustled in the undergrowth before emerging to run across the path, then up a tree. It was a great start to our walk. We were to see another two grey squirrels, and a wee beauty of a red squirrel. It, too, was on the ground when we first spotted it, but soon ran up a tree. I stood for ages watching it make its way across the tree canopy with the sun showing off it’s rich colour beautifully. Apart from the small bird song I could hear several wood pigeons, then later two very noisy buzzards were soaring overhead.
Thank goodness we had such an enjoyable walk because the rest of the day was spent washing and doing housework.
