May Challenge - Rusty

Day 23 of DDW's May daily challenge - Rusty

Rust is one of many photographers favourite subjects, being full of textures and tones. If I were in the Lake District I would have headed for the Threlkeld Mining Museum which has a site full of rust. However, I'm a 3 hour drive from there and had other things to do in my lunchtime.

There's plenty of rust around if you look for it, and here is the bolt on a gate, where the rust has stained the paintwork, and you can also see that it has rained, so more water to help things rust a little more. A 3 shot focus stack to get the front and back in focus.

Yesterday I said that I had an "accident" at lunchtime, the result of which was going to be expensive today. I had called into Chiswick Cameras to order a small accessory, I had been looking at a second-hand 80-400mm lens that they had in stock, but having read a few reviews led me to think that I would save my pennies and get the latest version one day, not this old version as it had had a considerable upgrade (in quality and price). While there I asked about the current delivery times on the D800, apparently it is 4-6 weeks (I was thinking of upgrading before next years Yosemite trip, and with a little time to become familiar with it beforehand too). Then the guy in the shop told me that they had a second hand one just come in, less than 500 shutter actuations, and in mint condition. He even offered me an extra £50 off as I was a regular customer. That gave a total saving of just under £350 compared to the price in most stores for a new camera. The previous owner was known to them as someone who would buy a new toy, get bored with it and part-ex it for something else. They were happy to provide this service to him and I was quite happy to relieve them of their new stock item, and went back today, suitably equipped with card to pay for it and to collect it. So, I am now the proud owner of a D800, and have just spent an hour or so going through all the menus setting it up how I want it. A happy accident for me. Not having been through the menus when I took today's blip, it was done on the trusty D700.
