Caravaggio …

…at the National Gallery of Ireland.

We spent much of today visiting Dublin’s excellent art museum. We specifically wanted to see their superb Caravaggio, “The Taking of Christ,” as well as their old master collections.
The Caravaggio was discovered in 1990 when a painting hanging in the dining room of a rectory in Dublin was sent to the Gallery for restauration. The restaurer (an Italian) immediately recognized that it could be a well-known work that had been lost. It is now on permanent loan to the art museum.
