Its the colour that does it!

Today I went out with a specific photograph in mind and this one isn't it!  What I had in mind was a row of town houses with repeating doors and windows.  Getting close in a taking the image in portrait format.  You can see what I had in mind by looking at the extra image.  However I took a wide shot of the village from the roundabout and the display of colour drew my eye.  So here is the question, should I have stuck to my original idea?
