Seven Pounds An Hour

Got back from Liverpool to find a letter about another long train journey (check my 10 May entry for details).

Essentially, I was stuck on a train for seven hours after it hit a tree with no food or water. I wrote to complain and today's post brings the news that South West trains have generously offered me £36 of "ex-gratia" compensation - eg, "we don't HAVE to give you this, but we will out of the goodness of our hearts"

That's just over seven pounds an hour for my forced incarceration. Cheers, dudes!
