Easter Monday, cold for the time of year.

Our first Easter without dad , it was always the most important season of the year for our parents.
As children we were given a chocolate egg in a mug, always thoughtfully chosen by my dad. By the time Easter arrived we had spent so many hours in church that we felt like we had earned our chocolaty reward. My sister and I always had a new bonnet too, I don’t think the boys got anything extra. I wonder if they noticed ?

Today was both wet and cold, we took the faithful hound out for a walk in the woods , not another soul was to be seen, we arrived home soaked but pleased to have been out nevertheless.

Jess and the children called in this afternoon, for a bit of brief respite from their own child centred home [ floors covered in toys etc] Arthur was pleased with his Easter book , the story of poo ! So interesting, quite a few facts that I didn’t know. We bought the same book for Florence who was also fascinated. We then hauled a box of Jessica’s childhood books from the loft and had a happy time reminiscing. She has taken some that Arthur is now old enough to enjoy.
We  are such a  bookish family, making time to read has always been a priority, its heart warming to see the two older grand children enjoying books and also starting to want to look through them by themselves.

I’ve taken a photo of her two favourites, both Swedish, by the same author and full of beautifully detailed illustrations. One in English, sent by our friend Kjell and the other in Swedish and translated painstakingly by her Aunty Jan. Jess was so pleased to be reunited with them , they have given her such pleasure over the years and she had been thinking about both the books over Christmas and wondering where they were as Arthur is now old enough to enjoy them too.

The little cornflake cake  is one of 4 that Jess and Arthur made for me, all allergen free, what a treat ! A insisted on there being three eyes as he said that they were aliens.

There is also hopeful news on the Ruby front , the welding has been completed and hopefully the remaining jobs will be completed this week. It’s Isaacs birthday next week and it would be really helpful if we had Ruby to sleep in as we shall be going over to see him , fingers crossed as it’s all weather dependent.
