Pheasant's Eye
I just wish you could share the scent.
Narcissus poeticus, sometimes called the Poet's Narcissus and Pheasant's Eye. A flower I remember from early childhood. It grew in quantity in the garden of the house we moved into when I was five and persisted for some years despite my dad's preference for growing vegetables. It's the last of the narcissus to flower, sometimes not until May. These may be the long established cultivar Actea, which flowers a bit earlier. It has a very sweet scent, a bit different - and to my nose - nicer than the yellow trumpets. On an AGS holiday in the Pyrenees over twenty years ago, we came across a hillside covered in these growing in the running meltwater from snow higher up. A wonderful sight!
A very wet day here today, mostly spent at work in Wharf cafe. Home for food then an evening singing which was great. Not only getting to know the songs but also each other too which is good. One singer had managed to get a ticket to see The Young Uns in Shrewsbury yesterday, I had missed the boat - sold out. She brought a copy of their new album back for me .... something to look forward to tomorrow as I'm online with Ruth tonight. She had a con-man knock on her door a few weeks ago, offering to get rid of rubbish "like I am for someone down the road." A take the money and run merchant - something reported on a community FB page. The same man turned up again two weeks later, this time coming to a window to make his pitch. Today the police came to take details .... and tonight he came again, this time telling people on the road that he was "clearing rubbish for the disabled lady who lives on the corner" - Ruth. A chancer desperate for cash ... very unsettling that he keeps turning up on Ruth's street :-(
