A Line for Emma
I took the loose leaves of my great grandmother's 150 year old autograph book and made it into a new artist's book using the original covers. One page was actually from another book, and it was dated March 10, 1869, when Emma was just 16 years old. It had an amazing bird penned in ink. I also included the oldest photo I have of her, in 1875, with her first child, my grandmother's brother Walter. Emma was barely 5 feet tall, and it shows in this photo. One of the inscriptions began, "A line for Emma..." (I've added an extra with the 1869 page enlarged so you can see some of the detail.)
Gift#102: a window into the past.
