The Weather outside is......... wet !

Today I spotted the first bluebells blooming in our nearby woods and then read that they are under threat from the introduction and spread of Spanish bluebells. I learnt that the bluebells native to the UK have a scent , drooping stems and bells that only hang down on one side of the stem.
The Spanish variety , are scentless with upright stems. The flowers , also bells, form on both sides of the stem. I shall be investigating when I’m next out in the woods. There are carpets off them under most of the trees in the mixed woodland however beneath the oak trees there are neat and naked circles of earth, which reflect the canopy, with a complete absence of any undergrowth at all. They clearly don’t want the competition. However beautiful the bluebells are.

Rain spoilt play today although we have managed two dryish walks with our hound. The river is running fuller and faster after a few wet days and the sun was actually shining as I walked along it earlier, hence the shot.

After much fussing I have planted the ginger root and now await its reappearance with eager anticipation. Its in an upstairs bedroom as it requires light , but not too much , warmth and moisture. It will be our houseguest for a few weeks until the weather warms up.

Not much else to report except that Ruby MH has passed her MOT and should be ready from tomorrow , hopefully we will get a few nights away if we can find a site with vacancies near our son who has birthday next week .

Here is link to an interesting article about the environmental situation in Borrowdale, its worth reading if you are interested in restoration of the diversity of species that once enriched our shores , things are changing but oh so slowly !
