Stone of Destiny
Stone of Destiny
Today we visited the interior of Scone Palace for the first time- despite having lived in Scotland for over 40 years.
It's most famous for its place in Scottish history, the site where Kings of Scotland were crowned on the Stone of Destiny. The oriignal is in Edinburgh and it will shortly be moved to London for the coronation of Charles 3rd.
Meanwhile a replica rests in Scone Palace. ( see photo ).
It is seen as a sacred object, and its earliest origins are unknown. In 1296, King Edward I of England seized the stone from the Scots, and had it built into a new throne at Westminster.
