Gernika 84
Blippers who followed the journal called LornaL between 2019 and 2021 may know that it has been turned into a podcast and another blip diary has been created to accompany the making of that, the LornaL podcast
In a nutshell, for anyone not familiar with this project, it was the brainchild of an established blipper, HazelH, to publish a relative's WW2 diary and associated art work through the medium of Blipfoto. It was an intriguing and original project involving much research (some of it suggested or sparked by blippers.)
The companion journal accompanies the making of the podcast (a stand-alone project) and aims to include images of places mentioned in Lorna's diary both in the UK and worldwide. The idea is to source them all from blippers (but not from their journals). Most of the required images have been supplied now but some are still missing - including Coventry! (Surely someone has a photo of that city?) You can discover which ones are still needed by clicking the second link above.
The beakers? Well, one of the places mentioned that still needed a picture was Guernica in Spain (made famous by Picasso's extraordinary painting of the WW2 bombing of the town). I knew I had some old photos of it from a bicycle trip to the Spanish Basque country in 1984. I eventually located, scanned, and offered them to the LornaL podcast team. The one selected appears here.
If anyone else can help with the missing images they would love to hear from you.
(The beakers were the only souvenir we were able to bring back in our overstuffed bicycle panniers. They are each marked Gernika 1984.)
Thank you to everyone who sympathised with yesterday's carpark drama. The children are fine and the car window is due to be fixed.
