Bee fly

In the garden on Tuesday I also spotted a bee fly on my little patch of wood anemone. They rarely sit still, mostly hovering around over your head! So I was lucky with this one. The larvae of bee flies are nest parasites of ground nesting bees, and the female lays her eggs near the entrance to a nest, and apparently flicks the egg towards the hole!
The anemone was rescued from a rut beside the lane so I’m pleased it is establishing.
