The view of some towers and spires looking from a busy wet Edinburgh Castle Esplanade down the top of the Royal Mile.
The nearest tower is the Outlook Tower and Camera Obscura from which there are spectacular 360 degree views of Edinburgh and several floors of optical illusions which are very popular with children.
A small turret is noticeable beside the tall steeple and this was part of Castle Hill School which closed in 1952 and is now part of The Whisky Experience Centre.
The spire with the red window is 73m high and the tallest in Edinburgh and was built in 1842 as The Tolbooth Kirk then closed in 1981.  Now it is called The Hub and is a multi-functional building comprising a performance space and venues for functions, conferences and the main office for the Edinburgh International Festival.
Beyond that above the chimneys is St Giles Cathedral with the top of the crown spire which was completed in 1495 above four massive central pillars which date from around 1120.  It is the main church in Scotland for national events.
In the distance is the tower of the The Tron Kirk which was founded in 1673 with the stone spire built in 1828 to replace a wooden one which burnt down. It closed in 1952 and is now used as an exhibition that showcases the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh as World Heritage Sites
