Pram coat

Lunch at MediaCity today with my friend who works there. Haven't seen her in a while so it was great to have a proper catch up. She reminds me of myself (pre Audrey) in that she knows she wants children but isn't the natural maternal type. Last time I saw her she popped over to the house with her husband. Audrey must have only been a few weeks old. As she was leaving she made a comment about being glad that I hadn't turned all "Mumsy", "wearing one of those God awful pram coats with a hood".

The door shut and my husband and I fell about laughing as hung up right there by the door, was exactly the type of coat she was referring to.
Pram coats might be Mumsy but they are a necessity I find. Walking in all kinds of weather conditions without being able to hold am umbrella, I literally never leave the house without mine.

I knew what she meant though and it was the type of thing I would have said before I had a baby too. The truth is, those things don't really matter. It is nice to dress well occasionally but practical wins the day as a rule.

I still couldn't bring myself to wear my pram coat to meet her today though. I wore full make-up and even took heels and hid my flats under the pram before we met at the restaurant! She would probably have laughed if she'd known the effort I'd gone to!

After lunch, she snuck Audrey and I into the BBC for today's photo opportunity. I interviewed Audrey on the subject of teething on the BBC Breakfast sofa. She was an excellent guest, very knowledgable!! Susannah Reid eat your heart out.
